This past weekend, I attended Santa Day. The town where I’m staying was abuzz with activities. Shops were having holiday sales. Community groups were handing popcorn, hot chocolate, and cookies to passersby. And there were plenty of free activities such as hay rides, two petting zoos (complete with camels and donkeys!), face painting, gingerbread decorating, and visits with Santa Claus. The big man was in town! The day ended with a nighttime parade topped off with a wonderful fireworks display.
What a fun way to ring in the holiday season, made even better because I was there with my sister, niece, and her family. Seeing the joy in her children’s eyes after their visit with Santa reminded me of when my children were small. This is such a magical time of year.
I know Christmas and the Holidays mean so much more than a man in a red suit delivering gifts. But, for me, Santa Claus is a reminder of the magic we all have access to.
Think back to when you were small and believed wholeheartedly in Santa Claus. And if Santa wasn’t part of your upbringing, recall a time, person, thing, or event you believed in without question (regardless of the outcome).
You believed in something bigger than yourself. Something or someone who knew how worthy and deserving you were. You had blind faith that they would come through for you. You whispered your wish and trusted it would appear. You dreamed big and knew that, someday, if you held that vision and moved through your days with that underlying knowing it was on its way, one day it would be yours.
I love this time of year because it reminds me that that’s how life works — if we let it.
If we could stop doubting and second-guessing ourselves and believed — truly believed, trusted, and knew we were worthy and deserving of our wishes coming true, and took actions to support our knowing, life wouldn’t be so hard. We’d all be happier. Don’t you agree?
So what’s your Christmas wish?
Better health? A more loving relationship? Work that fills you with joy? More money?
Try this…
Wake up every day like it’s Christmas Day. Go about your day with excited expectation that your gift is waiting for you. And if you don’t see it, look closer. You may be surprised to find it’s already in your life. It may have come wrapped in different paper. Or perhaps it’s a different size or shape than you expected.
For instance, better health may come wrapped in the shape of an apple rather than a chocolate bar or a friend to walk with rather than walking alone. Which, do you think, was a gift from Santa (a.k.a. the Universe) meant to help your wish come true? Which do you choose to see as a gift, or do you only see coal in your stocking?
Be open to the magic of life. Allow gifts of all shapes and sizes — even ones you didn’t specifically ask for — to find you.
There are all kinds of presents in the present if you’re present.
