As I sat down to write this note, I turned on the radio for some background music. I’m in Croatia and I found a German station that plays only English music. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Passenger’s song, Let Her Go, was playing. The catchy song is such a good reflection of human behaviour. Here are the first lyrics:

Well, you only need the light when it’s burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you’ve been high when you’re feeling low
Only hate the road when you’re missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
And you let her go

We live in such a beautiful world, rich in possibility and abundance of all kinds, yet we’re often so focused on what we DON’T have that we don’t appreciate what we DO have until it’s gone. Then we want it back and beat ourselves up about our stupidity and lost opportunities for years to come.

Often, we’re unhappy where we are. We’re looking for the next thing and the next. We set goals and strive to achieve more, comparing ourselves with others and not feeling satisfied with what we’ve already accomplished.

Robert Holden calls this Destination Addiction.

The problem with destination addiction is that we miss the life we’re living now with the hope of being happy once we arrive at the destination. Except we never arrive. We never feel good enough. There’s always more to want and achieve.

We’ve been conditioned to believe that we have to pay our dues first before we can live a life of ease, freedom and joy. No pain, no gain, right?

This is an ego-driven way of living that doesn’t feel good because it’s not aligned with your heart.

What if you could flip the script?

What if you lived NOW by enjoying the present moment and appreciating all you have in your life right now? An easy way to do this is by tuning into your heart.

When you tune into your heart, you naturally come into the present moment and you come to realize that the present moment is all there really is.

Now that you’re in your heart…

What if you let your heart, rather than your head, guide your goals?

Give it a try:

If your heart set one goal for you today, what would it be?

Open your mind to all the wondrous possibilities and allow your amazing brain to come up with interesting, heart-aligned solutions (some of which may go against the grain but are far more fun).

By the way, the next song that caught my ear was A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman, as sung my P!nk. Here are the first few lyrics:

I close my eyes and I can see
The world that’s waiting up for me
That I call my own
Through the dark, through the door
Through where no one’s been before
But it feels like home

They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy
They can say, they can say I’ve lost my mind
I don’t care, I don’t care, so call me crazy
We can live in a world that we design

Here’s a link to a video of P!nk singing this song with her daughter, Willow. Give yourself the gift of Now and have a listen. ❤️
