Do you have a bucket list? If so, how many items are checked off? If you don’t have a list, why not?

A bucket list is a type of wish list; an itemized list of things you’d like to experience before you die (or kick the bucket).

The problem with a bucket list is that we tend to see it as a ‘some day’ list. We say to ourselves, “This is something I’ll do when…I have enough money, enough time, less responsibilities, when I retire, once my kids have flown the nest, when I can find someone to do it with me….”

We risk not getting to any or many of the items.

Bucket list items are a symbol of your dreams.

We forget that we’re in control of our lives. We make the choices for our experiences.

We forget that not choosing to do something is also a choice and another way we’re creating our life.

Choosing to make your dreams, wishes and desires a priority in your life is saying yes to you. It puts you back in your power where you can create a life that makes you happy.

Writing a bucket list is a fun way to help you tune into your heart. The more you align with your heart’s desires, the more you’re living a soul-led life.

Here’s a practice for you:

Make three lists.

  • On list one, write down simple things you’d love to do, like watch the sunrise from an inspiring place.
  • On list two, write fun, exciting and/or adventurous things you’d like to do.
  • On list three, write your biggest, boldest, grandest wishes.

Then look at your lists and pick one item that you’d like to start taking steps toward fulfilling this week, month or year.

Here’s a bucket list item I checked off this week: being amidst a field of bluebells. It’s a simple thing but it meant putting myself where I could experience it and being present in the moment to appreciate and enjoy its fleeting beauty.

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of ticking off a bucket list item. It fills your heart with love and joy.

Living a bucket list life means you’re present in your life. You’re part of your life. You’re listening to your heart and saying yes to you. The more You you have in your life, the happier you are.

What’s one thing you can do today which will move you closer to ticking off your first or next bucket list item?
