As the year draws to a close, it offers an opportunity for reflection; to look back on the past year and recognize ways you’ve grown because of (or in spite of) challenges you’ve faced, whether you chose the challenges or not.
It’s a time for introspection; to go within and consider what you want for the coming year and what you’re ready to let go of.
It’s a time for dreaming; for daring to envision that things can be different and better — that you can feel more fulfilled and happier.
Rather than set a New Year’s resolution — a declaration to stop doing something that’s contributing to the lack you’re already feeling which will make you feel worse when you don’t stick with it (ie: I feel bad about myself therefore I declare that I will stop eating junk food and exercise 5 times a week) — I invite you to make a New Year’s intention.
An intention comes from a loving place ie: I want to be healthier therefore I intend to eat more fruit and vegetables and go for walks in the fresh air more often.
An intention is ongoing; if you don’t do it for three weeks, the intention is still there and you can start or increase at any time.
Intentions are self-loving.
They’re about letting go of unloving behaviours. What would you like to let go of once and for all?
I invite you take time over the holidays to reflect on how you’ve grown this past year (rather than focus on targets you missed or have yet to achieve). How would you like to grow in the coming year?
Go into your heart and let it share its vision for what your soul feels is possible for you.
You’re a living human being with feelings and emotions of which happiness is one of them. You’re meant to pay attention to your emotions; they’re your guidance system. If you want to feel more fulfilled and happy, let your heart (not your head) guide your intentions.
Let your heart help you decide what you’re ready to let go of and how to lovingly envision and move toward creating a life you love.
Here are few questions to get you started:
What’s one thing your heart is proud you did this year?
What’s another?
What’s one thing your heart wants you to let go of?
What’s another?
What’s one thing your heart wants you to do more of?
What’s another?
What’s one exciting possibility your heart wants you to explore?
What’s another?
Wishing you a Heartfully Happy (and safe!) Holiday season and all the very best for 2022.
